A new research project has been approved by the European Commission (EC) to help mitigate the environmental impact of the aviation sector. The Holistic Green Airport (OLGA) is based on an integrated approach and started on 1 October 2021. The project will develop innovative sustainable measures to reduce emissions from both the air and land side, while improving energy efficiency, air quality, biodiversity and waste management. The proposed solutions support the carbon neutrality ambition of the European Union (EU) and aim to improve the quality of life. OLGA focuses on increasing the environmental performance of airports from the perspectives of flight operations, passengers, cargo and the community. The project is uniquely positioned to showcase innovative sustainability measures and demonstrate scalability and applicability at EU level.
